Welcome

Steroids in Sports

For all those that have bothered to get this far.  Welcome to my blog.  I'll be discussing the use of steroids or PED's (Performance Enhancing Drugs) in all sports.  I specifically want to look at why athletes are drawn to them and why I believe that the penalties given out in most sports are not strong enough to stop the problem.

An example of this is the influx of Latin American players in American Baseball with most of them growing up in poor conditions in their home country.  Now, contracts in the Major League's are guaranteed and cannot be voided if one violates a PED policy.  With this in mind, what is the incentive for these players who grew up in filth not to use steroids?  They get their money and a better life even at the expense of their reputation and the damage it could have to the integrity of the sport.

That's just a preview of what's to come so if you're still interested, stay tuned.

  1. I like the topic of discussion. You mentioned that penalties are not severe enough, so you're obviously arguing against. My interest is in which sports in particular you will discuss to make your point. As well as the contrast drawn between athletes that must take performance enhancers because unatural levels of conditioning are the rule, such as in bodybuilding. Looking forward to reading your piece.

  2. I would like to know what your argument is. Are you saying that drugs should be banned? If so, are they not banned already in most major sports?

  3. Make your argument clear. Perhaps you think that the standards are too tough or not tough enough?

  4. How do you suggest the sports governing bodies make stronger punishments? If this is possible for them to do so.
